LINCOLN GRANT
WHEN: 3RD - 16TH OCTOBER
WHERE: STARTING AT STEPS OF PARLIAMENT IN CANBERRA AND FINISHING AT THE STEPS OF D-BAH WHERE JOHNNY HAD HIS ACCIDENT
WHY: JOHNNY IS A GOOD MATE OF MINE AND MYSELF ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY HIS JOURNEY. HE’S FOUND HIMSELF IN NO MANS LAND WITH FUNDING, NOT BEING ELIGIBLE FOR NDIS IN AUSTRALIA OR ACC IN NEW ZEALAND SO HIM AND CHARLIE HAVE BEEN SELF FUNDING ALL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, REHAB, ACCESSIBLE HOUSING, MODIFICATIONS THEMSELVES WITH CHARLIE AS HIS FULL TIME CARER. I I WANTED TO CHALLENGE MYSELF PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY, AND DO SOMETHING IVE NEVER DONE BEFORE BUT MY WHY IS THESE TWO, I WANT TO HELP THEM WITH THE FINANCIAL BURDEN
Meet Johnny
A day before they were due to fly back to NZ to celebrate their engagement, on June 18th 2024 life changed in an instant when on the first wave of the day Johnny came off a wave and hit a sandbank. Resulting in 3 broken ribs, punctured lung, burst fracture at T10, and a dislocation at T11 bending his spinal cord leaving him experiencing paralysis from his waist down.
He spent 6 months in hospital, and has now been out for 7 adjusting to life with a spinal cord injury.
